About us

The Company

MarSensing was created as a spin-off project from the Underwater Acoustic Signal Processing Laboratory ( SiPLAB ) located at the University of the Algarve, Portugal. Our team is composed of scientists and engineers which have, throughout the past years, researched and developed in the area of Underwater Acoustics.

The MarSensing company was founded on the 19th of December 2007. The idea to begin this project has been in the creation since early 2006, the opportunity to create the company came at the end of 2006 when it was accepted as a technological project by ADI a country wide financing initiative, ADI is financed through National and European funds.

MarSensing has as primary objectives the development of technology, performance of services and consulting in underwater acoustics. The development of tech nology comes from the experience which the team has gained through the development of varios specialized equipments like the Acoustic Oceanographic Buoy ( AOB ). Our services include field acquisition of underwater acoustic signals in scientfic sea-trials, ocean noise measurements and develop solutions in underwater acoustics.

Our continous objectives are to create quality specialized products which are customized to customer specifications. Our continuing relationship with the s cientific community will enable us to maintain a line of inovation to create new products and services.

People

Cristiano Soares

Director, Signal Processing

Cristiano Soares received his Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Algarve (UAlg) in 2007, with thesis title Broadband Matched-Field Tomography using simplied Acoustic Systems. Since 1997, he was a member of Signal Processing Laboratory at the UAlg, and his main research topics involved Signal Processing and experimental Under- water Acoustics in shallow water environments, more specically in Ocean Acoustic Tomography and Matched Field Processing. Current interests in- clude Underwater Noise Monitoring Strategies, Cetacean Bioacoustics, and Ocean Acoustic Tomography.

Friedrich Zabel

Software development and design of equipments, Sea-trial operations

Friedrich Zabel received his degree as a systems engineer in 2005 from the University of Algarve. Since 2004 he developed various equipments for the Signal Processing Laboratory at the University of Algarve with applications in underwater acoustic research. Apart from the development his functions included the participation in various worldwide sea-trials operating all technical equipment. His main focus at the moment is the development of systems which are lighter, more operational and user friendly to operate.

Celestino Martins

Electronic and Mechanical development and design of equipments

Celestino received his degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Algarve in 2005. He has been working at the Signal Processing Laboratory since 2004 as a hardware designer developing new underwater telemetry systems .

Antonio Silva

Signal Processing

Antonio Silva received his Ph.D. from the Technical University of Lisbon in 2009 and currently works as professor at the University of Algarve. Since 2002, he has split his time between researching physical-model-based underwater communications and developing new underwater telemetry systems.
