MarSensing has been awarded a contract for Underwater Noise monitoring at the Portuguese Pilot Zone for offshore renewables.
The Portuguese Pilot Zone is an area of 320 sqm off the West Coast of Portugal, aiming the testing and installation renewable energy devices.

The SURGE Project is an European collaborative project that aims at testing a Wave Energy Device (WEC) of type WaveRoller, near city of Peniche, located on the Portuguese West Coast. This project includes a work package aiming the study of noise radiated by the WaveRoller in the operational phase.
MarSensing and the Wave Energy Centre have carried out the second sea trial with two purposes:
  • to collect acoustic data to for establishing the baseline soundscape within the deployment area of the WEC;
  • to transmit acoustic signals across an ocean transect for acoustic modelling purposes, by means environmental acoustic inversion.

O Project SURGE é um projecto europeu com o objectivo de testar um Conversor de Energia das Ondas do tipo Waveroller, na proximidade da Cidade de Peniche, localizada na Costa Portuguesa. Este projecto inclui um estudo de avaliação do ruído radiado pelo dispositivo Waveroller na sua fase operacional.
A MarSensing e o Centro de Energia das Ondas levaram a cabo a segunda campanha do projecto com os seguintes objectivos:
  • adquirir dados acústicos para a situação de referência do panorama acustico da zona de instalação do conversor;
  • transmitir sinais acústicos ao longo de um transecto oceanico para o fins de modelização acústica, nomeadamente através da inversão acústica ambiental.
